The Swartland stretches from Darling on the West Coast down to the Olifants Mountain at Porterville in the east and includes Malmesbury, as well as the Riebeek Valley and Piketberg in the North. This location ensures an interesting differentiated microclimate ensuring a wide variety of quality grapes and wines. Swartland is a land of contrasts and surprises. Though the plains looks dull in the midday light, deep red soils glow between rows of dark-green vines on the hillsides.

Visually intriguing, viticulturally promising, it is by no means a homogenous, compact area separated by miles upon miles of wheat and livestock farms of around 1000 Ha and more in size. A flood of big money reflects the growing confidence in this area.
